Winter Without Snow

Winter Without Snow

It's midnight, late January

And the chill in the air shivers me again

For now it's cold and clear

Finally a break from the rain

In the gray monochrome January world

The rain becomes salt in the wound

This winter without snow

Is leaving me languished and lonely

I sit at the window and imagine the drifts

Eyes soon focus

Children playing in fresh fallen snow

Become ice encrusted bushes swaying in the wind

It's midnight in January

And the rain returns once more

In this winter without snow
